Hi, I’m Channa Connolly — your WebHostingCoach! I’ve been an entrepreneur and freelance web developer since 1997, helping people to build websites and convert their dreams and ideas into eBusinesses.
You will see that I also review and recommend some free hosting options, and more notably, a variety of open source software products and services. I have started several business over the years on a shoestring budget (that’s a nice way of calling myself a cheapskate), and I am continually amazed by the generosity of open source developers and the quality of their work. I would like to suggest that you never consider these products to be “free for the taking”, but instead treat them as “free to use until such time as you can afford to show your appreciation to the developer by making a donation”, no matter how small!
I provide much of my eBusiness coaching information free of charge. I am able to do this because I get compensated indirectly for my time and effort through referral commissions (also called affiliate programs). Some people are skeptical of the referral/affiliate model of review websites because they think that it creates bias in the product assessments — but you need not worry about this for two reasons: 1) just about every hosting company offers a referral commission program, so I have no incentive to promote one host over another, and 2) my conscience doesn’t allow it! And one other thing, the price you pay for your hosting or other products is never increased by the referral commission. You would pay the same price, (and sometimes pay more!) if you bypassed the affiliate link.
